A HOUSEHOLD in Sabah caused an uproar online after a few people were seen throwing exploding firecrackers at lion dance performers, reported Sin Chew Daily.

A widely shared three-minute video shows several men igniting and hurling chains of firecrackers at a yellow “lion” performing outside a residence. The performer in front was seen lowering the lion’s head to the ground as if to “consume” the firecrackers while they exploded.

Smoked billowed from the lion’s mouth as the crowd cheered on.

The performers repeated the stunt three more times before entering the house to collect their ang pow.

After the video went viral, many Internet users slammed the family for attempting such a dangerous stunt without regard for the performers’ safety.

Similar accusations were lobbed against the lion dance troupe for failing to put a stop to the action quickly.

In Chinese culture, setting off firecrackers is believed to scare away evil spirits and monsters during the New Year.

> A couple and their son in China’s Guangdong province got into a bust-up after the father was caught sleeping with his son’s girlfriend, reported China Press.Video footage of the incident shows an older man protecting a younger woman while he is being punched by a shirtless man – presumably his son.

An older woman, believed to be the mother, is seen trying to hit the younger woman while the father lands a punch on the mother’s face in retaliation.

It is said that the fight took place after the mother and son had tailed the father to the younger woman’s residence.

The father, mother and son were later seen being taken away by the police.
