PASIR GUDANG: More than RM63mil has been allocated by the Johor government to upgrade 20 Rumah Sewa Kerajaan (RSK) and people's housing projects (PPR) this year.

Johor state housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said that the upgrades cover roof maintenance, painting, sewage treatment plants and other amenities.

"During last year's budget announcement, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said an allocation of RM63.5mil would be distributed to 13 PPR's and seven RKS in the state.

"Some of these housing projects are old buildings, which is why the Johor government is providing aid for repair work to repair any damage.

"Although the state and Federal Government do not have a huge budget for this, we hope that this will help ease the residents' day-to-day lives," he said after officiating the Community Empowerment Programme and Community Farm Project at RSK Taman Cendana here on Saturday (Feb 17).

As an example, he said RSK Taman Cendana alone would utilise RM9.9mil to repaint the building as well as roof and sewage treatment maintenance.

"This housing project has 1,500 units in 20 blocks and was opened in 1988, which means that this building has been standing for 36 years," he said.
