GOF posts along Selangor coast fully upgraded, says Saifuddin

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 20 General Operations Force (GOF) posts along the coasts of Selangor have been fully upgraded following the government's RM45mil allocation.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said his ministry's emphasis was on upgrading and improving some facilities of the police and GOF such as posts and residential quarters.

"151 posts including the 20 in Selangor had undergone upgrading work.

"These 20 posts are very important because they function as forward posts to monitor for crime such as the arrival of undocumented migrants, the smuggling of contraband, drugs," he told reporters after visiting the General Operations Force (GOF) Central Brigade Headquarters in Cheras on Friday (Feb 16).

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain and Bukit Aman Logistics Department director Comm Datuk Seri Sahabudin Abd Manan also attended the visit.

"Last year, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim approved RM45mil to upgrade all GOF posts and almost all were completed on schedule.

"The renovation period was completed between one to three months ahead of schedule and the quality of the workmanship was also good," he said, adding that it was important to improve the quality of the GOF personnel and that they also felt happy and grateful because this improvement had been awaited for some time.

He said almost all of the upgrades were completed well, except for one or two isolated cases.

"RM200mil was allocated to the ministry to upgrade the facilities of some residential quarters units.

"In some cases, two residential units that were originally next to each other were joined to make one unit with a wider floor area.

"Other units remained the same size but we upgraded them with new paint, enlarging the bathroom space, repairing wiring, fixing cabinets and floors," he said, adding that all residential quarters were expected to be completed by the second quarter of this year.

"We prioritize comfort for these personnel to live in first before we move on to the facade of the buildings," he said.
