Car in fatal crash was trying to escape JPJ team, say Sipitang cops

KOTA KINABALU: The driver of the car involved in a fatal accident in Sipitang that claimed two lives was trying to shake off a pursuing Road Transport Department (JPJ) enforcement team.

Sipitang district police chief Deputy Supt Mail Sundongi said the 19-year-old driver and the 14-year-old girl seated in the rear were killed on the spot when the car landed in a ditch along the Sabah Forest Industries road at about 5.10pm on Wednesday (Feb 16).

DSP Mail said there were five people in the car heading to Kampung Sibubu when a JPJ enforcement team ordered the driver to pull over.

DSP Mail said that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
