Mentally ill man refuses to come down after three days on apartment roof

KOTA KINABALU: Police and firemen have been trying to coax a man to get down from the roof of his apartment in Sandakan district for the past three days.

The 39-year-old man is believed to be mentally ill, said Sabah Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Hamsa Isnurdini.

“He has been on the roof since three days ago and is still refusing to come down,” he said in a statement, Wednesday (Feb 14).

He said they were called to assist in bringing the man down at the Flat Sejati Apartment on Feb 12, at 10.58pm.

“The man’s family are also trying to get him to come down,” he said.

It is learnt that rescuers as well as the man’s family are not able to get close to him as he would turn aggressive and try to hurt himself with a stick if they got near him.
