Practice eating in moderation during CNY to avoid food wastage, says Lee


PETALING JAYA: Be mindful of food wastage during the Chinese New Year celebrations, says Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye.

The Alliance for a Safe Community chairman urged people to practice eating in moderation during the celebrations when gathering with relatives and friends at open houses.

"Remember not to take more than you can eat as it is also good for your health.

"Of course, during the holidays you want to try all the dishes offered but sometimes it will only lead to food wastage.

"Take smaller portions of the dishes so you would not waste food and not overeat," he told The Star.

Such practice would also allow hosts to pack the leftovers and avoid throwing it away, Lee said.

"Guests can bring home the leftovers and they can continue to enjoy the dishes at home.

"We need to consider sustainability when hosting or being guests at an event so we do not contribute to more waste," he said.
