Fine for couple who intimidated m-cyclists

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A Magistrate’s Court here has fined a man and his wife RM2,500 each for criminal intimidation on Penang Bridge.

Muhamad Hafiz Ong Abdullah, 50, and Ong Ser Ying, 37, were also ordered to be jailed six months if they failed to pay the fine.

The couple pleaded guilty before Magistrate Nurul Rasyidah Mohd Akit yesterday.

Muhamad Hafiz and Ser Ying were charged with criminally intimidating two men at KM2.8 of Penang Bridge from George Town to Prai at about 5pm on Feb 5.

The charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code was read together with Section 34 of the same code.

If convicted, the offence carries up to two years in jail or a fine, or both.

Deputy public prosecutor Nor Shakila Dahari prosecuted while both accused were unrepresented.

During the proceedings, both accused nodded in understanding after the interpreter read out the charges.

The woman was also heard apologising repeatedly for her wrongdoing.

Muhamad Hafiz was also charged in a separate court with a traffic offence under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous riding.

In a viral video, the duo can be seen riding dangerously and also attempting to kick other motorcyclists overtaking them on Penang Bridge.

Checks found the couple had three past cases involving criminal intimidation in 2021 and 2023, but they are not on the wanted list.
