IPOH: The hit-and-run case involving Deputy Supt Mohd Nazri Abdul Razak has been set for mention on March 21 by the Magistrate’s Court here.

The 44-year-old accused had been charged with murder for allegedly crashing his car into a motorcycle, killing a Form Five student in Taman Jati late last year.

Magistrate S. Punitha set the new mention date after a request from deputy public prosecutor Afzainizam Abdul Aziz, who said he was waiting to get relevant documents.

Afzainizam had earlier asked for about a month and a half to get all the documents in place so that the case could be transferred to the Ipoh High Court.

DSP Mohd Nazri was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder on Dec 18 last year.

He was alleged to have committed the offence against Muhammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie, 17, at Jalan Taman Jati, near SMK Jati, between 12.05pm and 12.40pm on Dec 15.

Also present in court were lawyers Datuk Wan Azmir Wan Majid and Zamri Idrus, who held a watching brief on behalf of the victim’s family.

The late teenager’s brother Zarul Fitri Muhd Zamrie, 29, and several relatives were also present.

The prosecution team also consisted of Saiful Akmal Mod Said and Geetha Jora Singh, while DSP Mohd Nazri was represented by Jacky Loi and Lim Chi Chau.

Earlier before the proceedings, a heavy police presence was again seen at the court premises.

However, this time, members of the media were not impeded and allowed to cover the proceedings normally.

When DSP Mohd Nazri was charged, media access was restricted to only one representative per news agency in the courtroom.

The suspect, who wore a black hoodie and face mask, was led to the courtroom by several policemen. After being led out of the courtroom, he was whisked away in a police car.
