RM6.4mil of fake goods destroyed in Johor in 2023

KULAI: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry in Johor has disposed of RM6.4mil worth of fake goods confiscated throughout last year.

Its state director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo said the items were listed in 226 investigation papers that had been completed by the ministry.

She added that the ministry also collected compounds and fines amounting to more than RM1mil in the state last year, in addition to enforcement revenue of RM567,528.

“Among the items disposed of were clothes, shoes, tobacco, cables, perfumes and cosmetics.

"Action (against the offenders) has been taken under the Trade Descriptions Act 2011 and the Trademarks Act 2019," she told a press conference at the Senai Exhibition Storage Complex here on Wednesday (Feb 7).

Lilis Saslinda said the ministry raided premises believed to be selling fake goods following complaints from the brand owners or representatives.

“Traders must comply with our laws and not sell or distribute fake goods.

"Consumers are also advised not to buy counterfeit goods because they are of poor quality and can be harmful," she added.
