Mother and son in Tawau found dead at pond near their house

KOTA KINABALU: A mother and her son were found dead at a pond near their home in Kampung Nasib Kita in Sabah's east coast Tawau district.

However, police have yet to determine if the mother, who was in her 40s, and her seven-year-old son drowned or were victims of foul play after their bodies were found by villagers on Tuesday (Feb 6) night.

Tawau district police chief Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said that police have sent the bodies to the Tawau district hospital for post mortem to establish the possible cause of death.

"Our investigation is focused on establishing if it is a case of murder or drowning," he said.

He said that any further statement would be released after the results of the post mortem were completed.

ACP Jasmin urged members of the public who have any information about the incident to contact the nearest police station.

He said police were informed of the incident after villagers spotted the victims at the pond.
