KOTA KINABALU: A grassroots leader of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) has called on all groups within the seven-party ruling state coalition to avoid internal bickering and work as a team to focus on the people's well-being.
GRS Women's Coordinator for Lahad Datu Zone Datuk Mizma Appehdullah said that each of the seven-party coalitions had its own strengths and roles to play and would contribute to the strength and integrity of the alliance.
"GRS should be an example of unity among multi-ethnic and religious communities in this state.
"How can the people want to unite if the leaders are always fighting with each other? It affects the stability of the state," she said after launching the "Jelajah Wanita GRS ZON 6B" programme on Tuesday (Feb 6).
The launch was officiated by GRS deputy chairman Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, who represented GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
The seven-member GRS comprises all local parties: Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat), Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Sabah STAR, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), USNO, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (Harapan Rakyat).
Mizma said that the strength and integrity of the coalition were important to ensure the goals of development, people's well-being, and state governance could be implemented properly.
She urged each component of the GRS to build unity and strength in their respective parties to create a formidable GRS.
Mizma, the Gagasan Rakyat Silam women's division chief, said that the coalition's women must also complement each other in building good working relationships among the coalition parties.
"The women's machinery will be the backbone of the party that can strengthen the party, especially in the upcoming State Election," she added.
"It is important for each party component to respect each other and set aside any differences to strengthen this coalition," Mizna said.
In his speech, Pandikar said that all component parties must continue to struggle for the development of the state.
