It’s a two-way traffic, says Fahmi

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR is open to criticism from its members, but those who do so should also be ready to be reprimanded by the party, says Fahmi Fadzil.

The PKR information chief said this in response to the current tiff between PKR lawmaker Hassan Abdul Karim and the party over the former’s statement about Umno, a party in the unity government.

Fahmi insists that reprimanding members is a normal practice in the party.

“There are a few things related to discipline, and if Pak Hassan can criticise, then he can also be reprimanded,” he told reporters after launching the Youth Empowerment Fair 2024 at the KL Convention Centre yesterday, Bernama reported.

Fahmi, who is Communications Minister, said the party has not decided whether any action will be taken against Hassan, who is Pasir Gudang MP.

“Let’s wait,” he said.

On Jan 31, Hassan was reported as saying that Umno needs to be led by a new face and not just depend on Pakatan Harapan to regain Malay support.

His statement received mixed reactions, including from Fahmi himself, who asked Hassan to stop interfering in the internal affairs of Pakatan’s allies.

Following that, Hassan said on Feb 3 that PKR could expel him if the party deems his actions an offence.
