Increased allocation for Jualan Rahmah programme in Johor

JOHOR BARU: Allocation for the Jualan Rahmah programme, which will be continued this year in Johor due to strong public demand, has been increased, says the state Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry.

Programme director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo said the allocation had been increased from RM6.8mil in 2023 to RM8.7mil this year due to strong demand for more daily necessities sold at discounted prices under the programme.

“We have set a target of holding more than 600 Jualan Rahmah programmes in all 26 parliamentary constituencies throughout Johor.

“Just last month, we did 26 Jualan Rahmah programmes. Throughout February, we aim to double them to 52,” she said.

The ministry, she added, held a total of 920 programmes in Johor last year where it received an overwhelming public response.

She said the ministry would also be conducting mobile programmes this year.

“Many prefer mobile Jualan Rahmah compared to the ones held indoors as it will allow us to reach out to those living in hard to reach locations,” she added.

“We are planning to conduct nine indoor Jualan Rahmah programmes for Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Deepavali and Christmas,” said Lilis.

Asked whether they would overlap with the state government’s own initiative, Jualan Kasih Johor, Lilis said there was no issue as long as more people in need were being helped.

“The main focus of the Jualan Rahmah programme and Jualan Kasih Johor is to help poor families ease their burden,” she said.
