PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz says corruption in the country has reached forms and levels unheard of, which has attracted negative global attention.
"Combating corruption cannot simply be a sound political strategy as it is a fight to save the country from being destroyed and social culture being eroded further," the former international trade and industry minister said in a Facebook post on Thursday (Feb 2).
"We have had enough of 'sound bites' as now is the time for serious action... measures must be in place to ensure no unilateral decision-making by anyone in authority," she said.
Rafidah said there must be panels of relevant individuals to evaluate and deliberate every application in every department and ministry, and every member must sign off and be accountable for each decision made.
She also said time-frames should be set for decisions to be made, preferably within two weeks, and the public must be fully informed of all requirements for any application so that there is no room for "negotiations".
"In short, the government must act with transparency, so that responsibility and accountability can be clearly apportioned," she added.
