Two suspects remanded for allegedly offering bribe to JPJ officer

SEREMBAN: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained an order to remand two suspects for seven days for allegedly offering and giving a bribe believed to amount to RM500 to a Road Transport Department (JPJ) enforcement officer.

Magistrate Fairuz Syuhada signed the order following an application by MACC prosecuting officer Zainab Yahya.

The duo, an ice factory supervisor and his agent would be detained at the MACC lock-up until Feb 6 to assist in the probe.

The suspects, one in his 40s and the other in his 20s were detained when they were called in for questioning at the MACC office in Port Dickson on Tuesday (Jan 30).

The duo allegedly gave the bribe as an inducement to prevent the JPJ from acting against them under the Road Transport Act for several traffic violations.

The JPJ, during a roadblock inspection in Lukut in Port Dickson on Tuesday, found that a lorry belonging to the duo did not have a valid road tax. The driver had also failed to provide a valid driving license and a goods driving license.

The case is being investigated under Section 17(b) of the MACC Act 2009.
