SEVERAL smaller Murugan temples throughout the country saw an increase in devotees carrying out their vows during Thaipusam this year, Makkal Osai reported.

Sri Murugan Temple in North Ward, Tanjung Rambutan, saw 1,100 devotees carrying paal kaavadi (milk kaavadi) for the first time in its history.

Temple committee deputy chairwoman Parameswari Tharman said another historic occurrence was the velli kavasam (silver armour) adorning the Lord Murugan statue during the procession, she said.

Meanwhile, the Perak Community Specialist Hospital had set up a thanneer panthal (drinks station) to distribute cold spiced buttermilk to over a thousand visitors, said temple president Rajendran Subraminam.

Another Murugan abode in Negri Sembilan, Rantau Sri Balatahndayuthapani Temple, saw more than 300 devotees and visitors fulfil their vows there.
