Floods: 18 schools identified as temporary relief centres during SPM in Johor


JOHOR BARU: A total of 18 schools in Johor have been identified as temporary relief centres for floods throughout the duration of the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2023 examination.

Education Ministry deputy director general (school operation sector) Azman Adnan said the 18 schools involved 21 examination centres.

He added that the 18 schools were located in six districts: Batu Pahat, Segamat, Kluang, Kota Tinggi, Kulai and Tangkak.

“Batu Pahat involves seven examination centres in five schools. Segamat has four examination centres in four schools, while Kluang and Kota Tinggi each have three examination centres in three schools.

“Kulai has three examination centres in two schools and one examination centre in a school in Tangkak,” he said.

Azman said this after conducting a working visit at Sekolah Tun Fatimah here in conjunction with the first day of the SPM written examination on Tuesday (Jan 30).

He added that SMK Dato Seth, SMK Yong Peng, SMK Kahang, SMK Seri Aman, SMK Tun Seri Lanang, and SMK Chaah were among the schools involved.

Azman also said that 58 examination centres and routes to examination centres in the state were also identified as being at risk of flooding during the current northeast monsoon period.

Meanwhile, he added that 48,426 SPM 2023 candidates participated in 364 examination centres opened in 301 schools in Johor.

"Some 161 candidates have special educational needs, and a total of 5,018 officers will be involved throughout the examination," he said.
