KOTA KINABALU: A man was killed while his two passengers injured after the car he was driving collided with a lorry in the northern Kota Belud district on Tuesday.
The incident took place at Jalan Kota Belud–Kota Marudu, near Kampung Wakap at 7.49am.
Kota Belud OCPD Supt Shahrudin Mat Husain said the three people in the car were travelling from Kota Marudu to Kota Belud town when the incident happened.
“The victim suddenly lost control of the car, which then veered into the opposing lane and rammed with an eight-tonne lorry,” he said when contacted.
He said the car driver died on the spot while his passengers, aged 20 and 41, sustained injuries and were rushed to the Kota Belud district hospital for treatment.
Supt Shahrudin said the 41-year-old lorry driver and his passengers, aged 18 and 27, escaped unhurt.
In Labuan, a female body was found washed up on the beach of Pantai Kiansam at 12.30pm on Monday (Jan 22).
The 58-year-old victim, whose identity was not revealed, was believed to live at the nearby Kiansam refugee resettlement scheme.
Labuan OCPD Supt Mohd Hamizi Halim said police have ruled out foul play.
He urged those with information to contact the police to help in the probe.
