Two habitual criminals arrested over a spate of house break-in cases

SERDANG: Two men have been arrested for suspicion of breaking into a house in Taman Muhibbah, Seri Kembangan, and stealing a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in November of last year.

Serdang OCPD Asst Comm A.A. Anbalagan said the suspects are aged 44 and 55 and were detained at Bandar Damai Perdana, Balakong on Monday (Jan 15).

"The 44-year-old suspect had 13 prior cases in his criminal record and he is believed to be the mastermind and striker.

"His accomplice has 11 prior cases and has been identified as the transporter," he told a press conference at the Serdang police headquarters on Wednesday (Jan 17).

The duo would target houses which have luxury vehicles parked in their porch areas, he said.

"The suspect will drive a vehicle and stop randomly while his accomplice will go down and ring the house bell a few times.

"If there is no one at home, the suspect will break in and steal valuables before escaping with a luxury vehicle.

"They would also change the number plates to avoid detection," he said.

ACP Anbalagan said the stolen MPV has been recovered following the arrest.

"We seized various house break-in tools as well as a machete, two knives and an object that looked like a pistol," he said.

One of the suspects also admitted to stealing another MPV, he added.

"The vehicle was reported stolen in Nov and it was found in Bandar Damai Perdana.

"We also recovered a Sports Utility Vehicle at Wisma Tanjung Balai, Sungai Besi expressway. It was reported stolen in Kajang," he said.

ACP Anbalagan said both suspects tested positive for drugs.

"We believe the duo were responsible for nine house break-in cases with losses amounting to RM700,000.

"They have been remanded until Monday (Jan 22)," he said.
