Man gets six months in jail, RM2,000 fine for obstructing two policemen in Rembau


REMBAU: A 26-year-old man was sentenced to serve six months in jail and pay a RM2,000 fine after he pleaded guilty to a charge of obstructing two policemen from discharging their duties.

Magistrate Kartini Kasran also ordered Ismail Ab Rahman, who is from Tg Kling in Melaka, to serve another six months in jail if he was unable to pay the fine.

Ismail, who works for a catering company, was charged with crashing his car into a patrol car with the intention to prevent the policemen from carrying out their duties at around 11.30am on Jan 7.

The offence was committed near a mosque in Kg Relong in Kota near here.

He was charged under Section 186 of the Penal Code which provides a jail term of up to two years or a fine of up to RM10,000 or both upon conviction.

Muhammad Amirul Noor Hashimi prosecuted while the accused was represented by Roslaili Alias from the Legal Aid Bureau.

According to the facts of the case, the two cops who were patrolling the area had tried to stop a vehicle for inspection purposes.

Ismail, who was behind the wheel, refused to stop and sped off.

However, his bid to escape failed as he soon came to a dead end.

The policemen then told him to step out of the car but he refused.

He then crashed into the left side of the patrol car in his bid to escape and was subsequently arrested.
