568 victims still at relief centres

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood victims in Johor dropped, while the situation in Pahang and Sabah remained unchanged, with a total of 568 evacuees yesterday afternoon.

According to the latest report from the National Disaster Control Centre, there were 274 victims at four temporary relief centres (PPS) in Sabah, 164 at four PPS in Johor, and 130 at two PPS in Pahang, Bernama reported.

In Sabah, 113 victims are sheltering at three PPS in Beluran district, and 161 in one PPS in Sandakan, while in Pahang, all 130 are at two PPS in Rompin.

In Johor, 86 victims are at one PPS in Kota Tinggi, 63 at two PPS in Segamat, and 15 at one PPS in Batu Pahat.

The Irrigation and Drainage Department Telemetry Station showed several rivers in Johor, Pahang and Perlis at dangerous levels yesterday afternoon.

These include Sungai Endau in Kluang, Sungai Johor in Kota Tinggi, and Sungai Muar in Segamat. In Pahang, the rivers are Sungai Pahang in Pekan, Bera and Maran, and Sungai Rompin.

In Perlis, only Sungai Arau was reported to be at danger level.

The National Disaster Management Agency said 43 roads were closed due to floods, damaged bridges and landslides.

These include Jalan Durian Mentangau in Dungun, Terengganu; Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kluang in Kota Tinggi, Johor; and the Kuantan-Segamat Highway (Tun Razak Highway) in Pahang.
