Floods: Number of victims drops in Johor


JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor has dropped to 791 people from 214 families at 4pm, compared to 1,130 people from 321 families at 8am on Sunday (Jan 14).

The state disaster management committee said in a statement that the evacuees are currently placed at nine temporary relief centres in five affected districts.

“The majority of the victims are at Mersing with 432 people, followed by Kota Tinggi with 150 people, Kluang with 98 people, Segamat with 88 people, and Batu Pahat with 23 people,” it said.

It added that the relief centre with the most victims is SK Air Papan, with 181 people and SK Tenglu, with 168 people in Mersing.

Three roads are still closed for all vehicles, namely Jalan Tanah Abang in Mersing, KM1 Lingkaran Kahang Barat, and KM9 Lingkaran Kahang Barat, it said.

“As of 4pm, there are two rivers that recorded a dangerous level, namely Sungai Muar in Segamat and Sungai Kahang in Kluang. The Labong dam in Mersing is also recording a dangerous reading,” it added.
