RTS link connection completion between Malaysia, Singapore historic moment, says Dr Wee

PETALING JAYA: The completion of the connecting span for the Rapid Transit System (RTS) project link between Malaysia and Singapore on Thursday (Jan 11) marked a historical moment, says Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong.

"It was a historical day where both Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong officiated the link between Johor Baru and Singapore today," said the MCA president on Facebook on Thursday (Jan 11).

He said the 4km-long transport transportation system with a capacity of 10,000 passengers per hour between the two countries would certainly benefit people from both nations.

"Not only will it reduce traffic congestion but it will also encourage cross-border activities and businesses.

According to Dr Wee, the RTS project was signed by both Malaysia and Singapore about three years ago, to be completed within six years by Dec 31, 2026.

"Four years of the project are for infrastructure construction while another two years are for safety tests and others related to trains (rolling stocks) before being allowed to operate for public use.

"The appreciation goes to the Prime Minister for agreeing to continue this project which will be a catalyst for economic growth when it becomes operational," added Dr Wee.
