IPOH: Two men are believed to have drowned after they were trapped inside a four-wheel drive that turned turtle and ploughed into a canal in Kampung Pulau Pisang, Jalan Bota Kiri-Tanjung Belanja here.
Central Perak district deputy police chief Deputy Supt Mohd Uzir Ismail said in the 11.40am incident on Thursday, the men – a 39-year-old driver and his 25-year-old passenger – had just loaded their vehicle with oil palm from a plantation in Kampung Pulau Pisang.
“Both of them are believed to have been trapped inside the vehicle that sank in the canal.
“Firefighters managed to free the men from the vehicle but both were pronounced dead at the scene,” he said, Bernama reported.
He said initial investigation showed that while the stretch of the road involved was a straight single narrow untarred lane, the weather was good at the time of the incident.
DSP Mohd Uzir added that the case was being investigated and he urged anyone with information to contact the investigating officer from the district police headquarters at 014-679 0829 or the nearest police station.
