RM700,000 paid out to local councils nationwide for small-scale projects

SERI KEMBANGAN: A total of RM700,000 was disbursed to local authorities nationwide this year to undertake small-scale infrastructure projects and upgrades in their respective areas.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming (pic) said this amount was a 43% increase over the allocation made last year.

It involved nearly 5,200 development projects, encompassing four main components: socioeconomic, public facilities, safety and infrastructure.

"This is the highest (amount paid out) by the ministry," Nga said during a visit to Pasar Bazar Rakyat MBSJ here on Thursday (Dec 28).

Infrastructure components, including works on drainage, roads and flood retention ponds, made up the highest number of projects at 3,941.

The socioeconomic component, including works on markets and food courts, consisted of 749 projects.

Public facilities (community halls) and safety (slopes) components covered 476 and 33 projects respectively.

Also present was Subang Jaya deputy mayor Zulkurnain Che Ali.
