Ministry: Enough chicken for coming festivities

KLANG: Raw chicken supply will be sufficient for the coming festive seasons, the Agriculture and Food Securities Ministry assures.

Its Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the ministry is ready to ensure there is enough chicken supply for Christmas tomorrow and the Chinese New Year in February next year.

“There is less (demand) for Christmas. For the Chinese New Year and the Ramadan month (next year), (we) definitely need to ensure the food supply is sufficient,” he told reporters after launching the 2023 Parti Amanah Negara National Convention here yesterday, Bernama reported.

In PENANG, consumers have been urged to report to the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) if traders impose conditions such as requiring them to purchase 1kg of premium white sugar first if they wished to buy coarse granulated sugar.

He said a total of 238 officers have been assigned to strategic locations such as public markets and shopping centres throughout the implementation period of the Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP), which began yesterday until Dec 27.

In SELANGOR, of the total 1,091 premises inspected so far this year, only four have been found to have violation of the scheme.

State KPDN chief enforcement officer Mohd Khairi Jamaludin said this clearly showed that traders in the state were highly compliant with the regulations set during the Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Puasa and Deepavali celebrations.

In MELAKA, food traders at carnivals or popular eateries have been warned against raising prices arbitrarily, by charging too much and putting pressure on consumers.

State KPDN director Norena Jaafar said the ministry, during its inspection of food sales at carnivals in several areas in the Central Melaka district, found that almost all traders had increased their prices by up to 200%.
