Kemaman district health office probes deadly case of food poisoning

KUALA LUMPUR: The suspected food poisoning case at Perasing rest and recreation (RnR) has been probed by the Kemaman district health office.

Terengganu state health director Datuk Dr Kasemani Embong said the district health office has launched an investigation on the premises involved to find the actual cause of a woman's death.

"Several food samples, equipment swabs and food handlers were taken to aid in the investigation.

"The department is currently awaiting the results of these samples," he said in a statement on Saturday (Dec 23).

The investigation comes following a report received about a food poisoning case involving a 54-year-old woman who suffered symptoms of food poisoning after eating a sandwich that was bought at the RnR in Kemaman.

Dr Kasemani said the victim experienced stomach pain, diarrhoea and vomiting after eating the sandwich.

She said the department considered food poisoning cases seriously and advised food handlers to always prioritise cleanliness and the safety of food and beverages sold.

The doctor said this is to ensure that food is prepared in a clean and safe manner to prevent cases of food poisoning.

She also urged the public to practise food safety by eating at food premises that adhere to high hygiene standards.

"Follow the concept of 'look, smell, and taste' before consuming to avoid eating spoiled food," she said.

Dr Kasemani also conveyed the department's condolences to the deceased family.
