Teen and dad nabbed in Kg Pandan over underage girl's secret marriage


KUALA LUMPUR: A 17-year-old and his father have been arrested after the teenager ran off with his underage lover to marry in secret.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said a 19-year-old UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) card holder lodged a report on Dec 7 saying his 13-year-old sister had been taken away by a man in a car.

"On (Monday) Dec 18 at around 3.40pm, a police team from Ampang Jaya arrested two UNHCR card carriers, aged 17 and 37, within the Kampung Pandan area.

"The girl was with the suspects at the time of the arrest," he said In a statement on Tuesday (Dec 19).

One suspect had a criminal record, he added.

Investigations showed that the teenagers had decided to get married in secret after the girl's parents refused to allow her to marry the boy.

"It was 'suka sama suka' (mutual attraction) but her parents did not allow it," ACP Mohd Azam said, adding that the suspects have been remanded until Friday (Dec 22).
