Two new Senators sworn in


Poised for new tasks: Abdul Halim take up new positions.

KUALA LUMPUR: Michael Mujah Lihan and Datuk Abdul Halim Suleiman were sworn in as Senators yesterday at the Dewan Negara.

Lihan is political secretary to Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg while Abdul Halim is Johor Umno secretary.

Both took their oath of office before the Dewan Negara president, Tan Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Bernama reported.

Abdul Halim’s appointment is effective from Nov 23, 2023, until Nov 22, 2026, and Lihan’s from Dec 11, 2023, to Dec 10, 2026.

The appointments were made with the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

Wan Junaidi, in his speech before starting the debate Budget 2024, welcomed the intellectual and constructive contributions from the two new senators.

Abdul Halim is also Tebrau Umno Division chief, while Lijan Murum Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Murum branch chief.

Wan Junaidi also reminded members of the Dewan Negara to maintain a productive momentum and continue to share their debates and speeches to the mass media, and to post on social media so that the public is informed of the Upper House’s proceedings.
