Pipeline linking Felda Serting Hilir and Jelai water treatment plant planned

PORT DICKSON: A 30km pipe linking the Jelai water treatment plant and several Felda schemes is being planned so that the settlers will get water directly from the state's concessionaire as the residents are currently receiving water from Pahang.

Syarikat Air Negri Sembilan (Sains) chief executive officer Mohd Yazid Ahmad said the company has been buying water from neighbouring Pahang since 1997 for its 1,600 account holders in Felda Serting Hilir 1 to 7 in Jempol, some 85km from here.

"Since the settlements are located at the Negri Sembilan-Pahang border, we will continue to buy water from Pahang.

"But we have plans to lay pipes connecting the Jelai treatment plant to these Felda schemes in the near future so Sains can supply the treated water," he told reporters at the agreement signing ceremony between Pengurusan Air Pahang (Paip) and Sains on the purchase of treated water on Tuesday (Dec 12).

Paip was represented by its CEO Datuk Saiful Zaini Mohd Bokhari while Mohd Yazid represented Sains.

The event was witnessed by Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun and his Pahang counterpart Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.

Under the agreement, Paip will supply 2.5mil litres of treated water a day to Sains at RM0.86 per cubic metre, for a year with an option to be renewed once every three years after that.

Mohd Yazid said Sains had to continue buying water from Paip as the settlers lived at the tail-end of its pipeline network where pressure was lower.

As such, buying water from Pahang is the best solution for now, he added.

He said the Jelai treatment plant which produces 114 million litres of treated water a day currently supplies water to Kuala Pilah and its surrounding areas including parts of Jempol.
