PETALING JAYA: All aspects in implementing the Multi-Lane-Free-Flow (MLFF) system that was planned earlier in 2021 is being looked into, says Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
The Works Minister said he had taken note of MLFF-related issues as reported in the media.
He said there was no denying that the previous administration had received approval in principle for implementing the MLFF.
“However, the approval was only to give space for discussions among parties involved in the MLFF,” Nanta said in a statement yesterday.
“Although planning and preliminary approval began in 2021, as Works Minister now, I realise the need for better scrutiny and enhancement, especially on the legal aspects to ensure MLFF can proceed smoothly to benefit the people.”
Nanta also said that for now, the highway concessionaires still hold the sole right to collect tolls as per concessionaire agreements that are in force.
“The MLFF initiative not only needs full cooperation from the ministry but also the concessionaires and the highest administration of the unity government,” he said.
Last March, the government said it would spend RM3.46bil to implement MLFF to prevent congestion at the tolled highway lanes in the country.
The MLFF is set to be implemented in 2024 before the full system is enforced a year later.
