Man arrested for theft from surau donation boxes in Seremban


SEREMBAN: Police here believe they have solved three cases of theft from surau donation boxes with the arrest of a 26-year-old man.

The suspect was detained at a house here around 11pm on Monday (Dec 4).

Seremban OCPD Asst Comm Arifai Tarawe said a 64-year-old committee member of a surau in Senawang here lodged a report on Dec 1, claiming that an estimated RM200 was missing from a donation box which had been forced open.

He said that the follow-up investigation and information received from the public led to the arrest of the suspect, who tested positive for drugs.

Police seized several items from the suspect and tools believed to have been used to cut open the donation box, he said in a statement.

ACP Arifai said the suspect has, who has five previous criminal records, has been remanded for four days.

He urged the public to continue working with the cops to beef up efforts in battling crime.
