THE mother of a six-year-old girl resorted to bringing her to the Johor Jaya police station after the child kept stealing from her classmates and from her own home.

Surnamed Liu, the mother from Johor Baru shared her story on Facebook, explaining that her eldest daughter would take things without permission and lie about it, reported Oriental Daily.

She had tried various methods to discipline her daughter but to no avail, and she is exhausted.

The girl kept doing it and this was noticed by her younger sister, who then alerted Liu.

The mother felt that it was a bad example and decided to follow through with her earlier warning.

At the police station, a male officer who could speak Mandarin spent nearly two hours lecturing the girl before giving her RM20.

Liu’s action, however, drew flak from Internet users, who criticised her for being harsh and mocked her for troubling the police.

In her defence, Liu said stealing and lying were not “small matters”.

> Oriental Daily also reported that a father in China recently took an unusual approach to discipline his son after the boy frequently made obscene gestures.

Sharing his story online, the man said his 10-year-old son never listened to advice and had a habit of flipping people off, whether they were classmates or strangers.

He even drew the offensive gesture on his exam papers, much to his father’s dismay.

To break his son of the habit, he decided to take drastic measures.

He instructed his son to raise both hands, showing the offensive gesture, and to stand for an hour as he recorded the process.

In the video, the father asks his son, “Isn’t this gesture you like doing?”

Tearfully, the boy said: “I don’t like it anymore,” promising he won’t do it again.

The video of the incident sparked a discussion online with some commending the father’s unique method of education.
