KUALA LUMPUR: The floral necklaces can vary in price, costing anything from RM100 to RM30,000. The difference lies in what comes with them.

The more expensive ones will get the buyer the “services” of guest relation officers (GROs).

Police put an end to the services when they detained nearly 200 suspects, including 155 foreign women and six foreign transvestites working as GROs after raids at two entertainment outlets in Johor and Selangor.

The raids were conducted by the Bukit Aman anti-vice, gambling and secret societies division (D7).

Bukit Aman CID deputy director (Investigation/Legislation) Deputy Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the first raid was conducted at a club in Taman Tampoi Indah, Johor Baru, at about 12.45am on Oct 12.

“We detained 99 people. Those detained were GROs, consisting of 82 Thai, a Vietnamese and two Laotian women and six Thai transvestites.

“We also detained five Bangladeshi men and three local men who worked as the manager and waiters,” he told a press conference at Bukit Aman yesterday.

Checks were also done on 69 customers, including 48 local men, he said.

“The club, located on the fourth floor of a shophouse, operated from 8pm till 4am daily and provided live band performances and two karaoke rooms priced at RM3,000 per room,” he said.

The club also sold flower necklaces to secure the services of the GROs, he said.

“The GROs did not have any valid working permits,” he added.

D7 also raided a club in Taman Perindustrian Puchong at about 11.45pm on Oct 14. DCP Rusdi said 98 people were detained.

“Among those detained were 73 GROs – 63 Thai, a Laotian and six Vietnamese women and three Thai men,” he added.

He said investigations showed that the club offered karaoke rooms priced between RM800 and RM2,000.

“The services of the GROs cost RM100 an hour while tips for them could be bought in the form of flower necklaces priced between RM50 and RM500.

“Tips could also be given directly to the GROs if a customer was satisfied with the ‘service’.

“The outlet also sold beers priced at RM150 per bucket,” he added.

A total of 15 customers were also detained after testing positive for drugs, he said.

“We also detained two other local men who were bouncers,” he added.
