KLANG: Selangor police are calling for better equipment and gadgets to ensure they are one step ahead of potential terrorists.
They were among the several agencies involved in a special field training exercise at North Port on Wednesday (Oct 11). One of the simulations conducted was a terrorist attack and hostage rescue.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said his personnel and other agencies worked well during the simulation based on their initial observations.
"The results were good, and we saw human resources and skills deployed expertly. That being said, we feel that one aspect can be looked into to make us more effective, our technology and equipment," he told reporters after attending the field training exercise there.
He said more advanced technology and gadgetry would make his personnel more effective in conducting such operations.
"We (security forces) learn, and the terrorists and enemies also know simultaneously, so we need to be one step ahead of them.
"Some of the technology that needs to be looked into include communications and drones," he said, adding the enemies would use jammers to turn off communications, so the security forces must look at alternatives.
Meanwhile, National Security Council deputy director general (strategic security) Comm Datuk Baharuddin Ahmad said several similar field training exercises have been conducted on offshore oil rigs before this.
"I have spoken to the Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, and we will conduct another of these exercises in the city centre.
"We must test our capabilities on how our response will be if such an attack occurs," he said.
