2,200 officers monitor food supply daily, says Fuziah

AT least 2,200 enforcement officers are being deployed on a daily basis to monitor the situation of food supply nationwide, says Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Senator Fuziah Salleh.

She said that of the number, a total of 900 price monitoring officers were also stationed nationwide as the ministry wants to ensure there is sufficient food supply in the country.

She said the ministry’s enforcement officers were also carrying out raids on business premises.

Its plainclothes officers were also on the ground to check on the prices of goods while ensuring a sufficient food supply.

“Our enforcers have a schedule, but from time to time they also carry out unannounced checks.

“There are also those who dressed as ordinary people out to investigate shops instead of just following a schedule,” she told the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

Fuziah responded to Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodi (GPS-Sri Aman) regarding the enforcement measures taken by the ministry to keep an eye on the availability and cost of goods in the market.

On another question regarding Jualan Rahmah, she said the programme had so far benefitted 40 million Malaysians.

“The subsidy for Jualan Rahmah was RM150mil–RM100mil and was allocated under Budget 2023, and the Prime Minister later approved an additional RM50mil.

“So far, we have reached out to 40 million people, and the total purchase stands at RM890mil,” she added.

Menu Rahmah is an initiative offering a balanced meal of rice, protein and vegetables for just RM5 at more than 15,000 food outlets.
