PASIR GUDANG: The details of the Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG) enforcement action against vehicle owners who park their cars in front of their houses will be shared after a special meeting this coming Wednesday (Oct 11).

Pasir Gudang mayor Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman said the council would start by providing an awareness session to the public on the by-laws that the council would enforce in phases.

"During the meeting, we will provide the complete paperwork on the enforcement to be tabled, and it will only be enforced in phases after getting approval from the councillors.

"For the time being, we will conduct awareness programmes for the public until the end of this year," he said during a joint press conference with the MBPG councillors at Menara Aqabah, here, on Sunday (Oct 8).

Asman Shah shared that the council has received 349 complaints from the public from January to September this year.

"Last year, we received 242 reports where parked vehicles obstructed public roads.

"There have also been reports of neighbours quarrelling due to these issues," he said, adding that 95% of the reports came from those living in Pasir Gudang.

Asman Shah also explained that the council would not issue an immediate compound but would start with a 21-day notice for vehicle owners to remove their cars.

"The compound will only be given for repeated offences," he said, adding that the compound is between RM100 and RM2,000.

On Oct 4, Johor Umno secretary Datuk Abdul Halim Suleiman was reported by Sinar Harian as saying that the council is insensitive for introducing such action.

This comes after the council posted a notice on its Facebook page informing that those who obstruct public roads by parking vehicles in front of their houses can be given a compound.
