BENTONG: Zaffarul Nazri Harmeni’s disability does not hinder his ability to vote.

The 49-year-old man, who is blind, was with his siblings as they queued up at the polling centre in SMK Seri Pelangai.

“My father drove us here. He has been doing so for every election season since I became blind 24 years ago.

“I am fortunate that my family understands that I want to fulfil my duty to vote,” Zaffarul said when met.

He said the voting process for the visually impaired is slightly different.

“Those with such a disability will have to fill out Form 10 (Announcement of Trusted Person) to name the person who will mark the ballot paper on behalf of a disabled person like me.

“The one who marked my ballot paper is my father. I just want to tell everyone that even those with disabilities must carry out their duty as voters.”

Zaffarul said the voting process only took about 10 minutes.

“It was not difficult at all,” he said.

Zaffarul said he became blind following a chemical explosion at a factory where he used to work in 1999.

“I have been through many treatments, even surgery in Singapore. I have accepted my fate.”
