IPOH: The police are investigating a woman's claim that she was belittled when she tried to lodge a police report about a car with an allegedly drunk driver.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said the police came across a post on X by a 28-year-old woman of a police report, describing her experience.

The woman claimed the police officer taking the report asked if she had been hit by the car and if she had not, why did she need to lodge a report.

"The police are serious about such complaints and appreciate public feedback.

"The matter has been referred to the police's Integrity and Standards Compliance Department for an internal investigation," he said in a statement on Sunday (Oct 7).

In the police report lodged at the Kampung Rapat police station, the woman claimed she and her friend were nearly run over by a car driven by an intoxicated man near a hotel in Gunung Rapat at about 11.20pm on Saturday (Oct 6).

She also claimed that the car crashed into a wall twice.

She said she lodged the police report as she had feared for her safety.
