Former MP comforts emotional voter
A voter in Bentong, Pahang, was moved to tears seeing former MP Tan Sri Liow Tiong Lai campaigning in the Pelangai by- election, reported China Press.
Li Jiu, 85, was overcome with emotion when he saw Liow handing out flyers at a coffeeshop in Telemong on behalf of Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Amizar Abu Adam.
Caught on film, Liow was seen walking over to console the octogenarian.
Li told the daily that he often comes to Telemong for tea.
The ardent supporter of Liow explained that seeing the former MCA president brought back memories of the latter’s previous defeats in the contest for Bentong MP.
The Pelangai by-election is set to see a three-cornered fight between Amizar, PAS’ Kasim Samat from Perikatan Nasional, and Independent candidate Haslihelmy DM Zulhasli.
Polling day is set for Oct 7.
The by-election is being held following the death of Umno assemblyman and Pahang exco member Datuk Seri Johari Harun in the plane crash in Shah Alam on Aug 17.
In the 15th General Election, Johari won with a majority of 4,048 votes, defeating Kasim, Pakatan Harapan’s Ahmed Wafiuddin Shamsuri and Isa Ahmad of Pejuang.
