FRAUD prevention agency CTOS IDGuard has flagged a staggering RM319mil in potentially fraudulent loan applications, reported Sin Chew Daily.
Since it was set up in 2020, CTOS IDGuard has screened close to seven million applications, including loans for car, home, small and medium enterprises as well as personal loans.
It also screened applications for loans for member banks and credit cards.
The daily reported that the digitalisation trend of most businesses had also led to an increase in virtual fraud cases, with some 55,000 cybercrimes taking place from 2021 to July this year, with losses amounting to RM1.8bil.
CTOS group chief executive officer Erick Hamburger said CTOS IDGuard recently launched various new measures, including improved fraud-tracking methods, enhanced investigation techniques, making machine tracing more accurate and reducing application errors.

A passenger named Zhao hit a man with a glass water bottle during the argument.
The incident left the victim, named Fan, with a cut and he later sought help from the police at the train station.
According to a video of the incident that has gone viral, Zhao was then detained by the police.
