MELAKA: The Mahkota Charity Run is making a comeback here after a five-year hiatus.

The run is organised by Mahkota Medical Centre (MMC) and this year's theme is "Breast Cancer Heroes Run".

MMC deputy CEO Teo Chin Yee said the run will be held at 6am on Oct 8 and the flag-off point will be at the hospital.

She said the run was last organised in 2018 and was stopped due to multiple reasons, including the Covid-19 pandemic.

"MMC is proud to announce our signature event is returning and we are targeting 3,000 participants for this year's run," she said in a statement on Wednesday (Sept 13).

Two noted that breast cancer is still the leading cause of cancer deaths among Malaysian women.

She said based on medical data, it is estimated that over nine individuals die of breast cancer every day, amounting to 3,500 deaths annually.

"In conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, MMC is organising the fifth edition of the run to bring together the community as well as to create awareness," she said.

Teo said all the proceeds collected during the run would be channelled to the hospital's charity partners, the National Cancer Society Malaysia and Seck Kia Eenh Cancer Fund Melaka.

Mahkota Charity Run 2023 has two categories, a three-km fun run and a 10km men's and women's open.

Those keen to join the run can contact Carol at 016-417 1290 or register online at: www.racexasia.com/event/mahkota-charity-run-2023-bchr2.
