Man involved in accident beaten up

SHAH ALAM: A driver was beaten up by a group of men after allegedly trying to flee from an accident scene following a traffic collision in Kota Kemuning.

OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the incident was reported to the police on Aug 28 by witnesses who saw the 43-year-old victim being beaten at the side of the road there.

He suffered injuries to the face, neck and chest.

“He is currently being warded for more medical procedures and is in a stable condition,” he said in a statement yesterday.

ACP Mohd Iqbal added a 27-year-old suspect was caught following a police report.

“During the arrest, four (other) suspects escaped. They have been identified and efforts are underway to arrest them.

“Preliminary investigations showed that the incident occurred when the suspect was upset after his car was hit by the victim in Persiaran Eco Sanctuary, following which the victim tried to flee.”

Sources say the suspect and his accomplices chased the victim after the initial contact between their cars, though the suspects’ car overturned during the chase.

This was believed to have inflamed the suspect even more.

“The suspect is remanded until Sept 1,” added ACP Mohd Iqbal.
