Woman, boyfriend arrested over her son’s death

SERDANG: A woman and her boyfriend in Taman Puncak Jalil here have been detained over the death of her five-year-old son.

Serdang OCPD Asst Comm A.A. Anbalagan said the boy was sent to Hospital Serdang for treatment at about 12.50am on Aug 22.

"He was unconscious when he arrived at the hospital.

"Despite administering CPR, medical personnel could not revive him.

"They were initially told the victim was hit by a vehicle," he said in a statement on Saturday (Aug 26).

However, further checks revealed several bruises and old wounds on the boy's body, believed to have been signs of abuse, he said.

"Upon questioning the mother, 44, and her 29-year-old boyfriend, we discovered that they had lodged a false police report, which stated that the boy was run over by a lorry," he added.

ACP Anbalagan said both were detained on the same day.

"Investigations showed that they were in a relationship since her husband died last year.

"Both suspects tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine. They have been remanded until Tuesday (Aug 29)," he said.

Post-mortem showed that there was extensive soft tissue injury due to multiple blunt force trauma, he added.
