Rosmah seeks release of passport to visit daughter

KUALA LUMPUR: Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor has applied to the Court of Appeal to temporarily release her passport to visit her daughter, who is expected to give birth later this month.

In a notice of motion filed through Messrs Akberdin & Co on Aug 11, Rosmah sought the release of her passport to make three trips to Singapore between Aug 18 and 23, Aug 26 and Sept 6, and Sept 9 and Oct 31.

“The applicant wishes to visit her daughter, who is currently pregnant with her third child and scheduled to give birth on Aug 28, as well as her family in Singapore.

“The applicant understands the consequences if she disobeys the court’s order to attend her court dates for mention and trial,” Rosmah said in her application.

She claimed that she had previously submitted applications of a similar nature, and the court had approved them with no objections from the prosecution.

This is Rosmah’s fourth application for her passport.

“The application would not prejudice any parties, and the applicant gives her word she would attend her trial,” she added.

Rosmah’s daughter, Nooryana Najwa Mohd Najib, is married to Kazakh national Daniyar Kessikbayev, and they live in Singapore with their two children.

The Court of Appeal will hear Rosmah’s application today.

On Sept 1 last year, the High Court convicted Rosmah on three counts of graft relating to the RM1.25bil solar hybrid project for 369 rural schools in Sarawak.

She was sentenced to 10 years in jail and fined RM970mil.

She is currently out on bail pending her appeal in the case.
