State polls: Semenyih candidate has supportive husband to thank for

ONE of the oft-asked questions about Wan Zulaika Anua, the Barisan Nasional candidate for Semenyih is "Who is her husband?".

The 49-year-old mother of four and Hulu Langat Umno Wanita chief would introduce her husband Shahlan Abd Aziz, 50, when the couple went to cast their vote at SMK Bandar Rinching on Saturday (Aug 12) morning.

As to how the couple coped while Wan Zulaika was on the state elections campaign trail, Shahlan said he was the one who looked after their youngest child, 15.

"I took over the fetching for my 15-year-old's football club meets and extra tuition classes," said Shahlan.

A cashier in the operations department of a bank, Shahlan is also the Semenyih Umno division head. The couple have been married for 26 years.

"I met Wan Zulaika at work and the first thing that attracted me to her was her smile," said Shahlan.

Shahlan has been supporting his wife's political career since 2001 when she was elected Subang Jaya Tengah Wanita Umno head.

"We share the same passion for politics. That is why we are so well matched," said Shahlan.
