PASIR PEKAN: Voters around Kampung Laut here started the day early by thronging the SMK Kampung Laut voting station on Saturday (Aug 12).

Isman Daniel Abdul Razak, 22, said he and a few of his friends woke up early to vote as they expected a shorter queue in the morning.

"I came back to my kampung to vote but will be heading back to work after this in Kuantan, Pahang," said Isman, a hotel receptionist.

Contractor Zulkifli Muhammad, 31, said he hopes his candidate for the seat of Pasir Pekan, Kelantan will win and build more facilities in the area such as clinics and schools.

He also encouraged young voters to vote as it is their duty as citizens.

Father of three Malik Rafi, 49, said he voted for change.

"Although (my choice of candidate) has no experience, I am confident he will learn fast and lead well," said Malik, a driver.

Retiree Rosli Ibrahim, 64, said he voted for a family member as a show of support.

"I am confident he will win and (represent) the people here well," he said.

Housewife Nurazif Diana Mazlan, 29, said she voted for the candidate she hoped would increase job opportunities in the constituency.

"It's been hard finding jobs at the moment so I hope (the elected representative) will help," she said.

Nurazif's sister, SPM graduate Wan Nur Fazlina Wan Fauzi, 18, said she voted for the same candidate as her sibling and hoped he would ease entry into universities for local youths.

"I'm nervous about not getting accepted into a university so I hope the government will lend a hand and make the process easier," she said.

Retiree Wan Muhammad Wan Omar, 76, and his friend Maliki Muhammad, 70, were both among the earliest at the polling station as they are used to going to the mosque for morning prayers.

"I usually wake up at around 4.30am to go to the mosque and meet the others there," Wan Muhammad said.

Maliki said he is still active and enjoys playing football with young people.
