Salahuddin’s daughter makes emotional trip to Parliament

PETALING JAYA: It was an emotional trip to Parliament for Fatihah Salahuddin (pic), who was there to remove her late father’s name plate.

The daughter of the late Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub had put on her father’s white shirt for her trip, admitting that she was overcome with emotion as she stepped into the august hall.“My tears fell as I thought of ayah (father).

It was just like yesterday when we worked hard for him to win in P161 Pulai parliamentary constituency,” she said in a Facebook posting.

Fatihah wrote that the Parliament had become Salahuddin’s big family. He was MP for Kubang Kerian for two terms (2004-2013) and was the lawmaker for Pulai from 2018 until his passing.

She said the Parliament also became her extended family, as she had the opportunity to serve as private secretary to then Dewan Rakyat speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof.

“I also served my father as his special officer from 2020 until Parliament was dissolved last year. I was given the responsibility to manage my late father’s parliamentary affairs,” she penned.

Fatihah also thanked the Parliament for its services to her father.

“It has been two weeks since he left all of us. This seat (Pulai) belongs to the people. It came from the people’s mandate and it is to be returned to the people who will choose and give their mandate,” she said.

Salahuddin passed away on July 23 at the age of 61 after undergoing surgery for a brain haemorrhage.
