District police chiefs among early birds to cast votes

SUBANG JAYA: The district police chiefs for Subang Jaya and Serdang were among the early birds to cast their votes during early voting held at the Subang Jaya district police headquarters here.

Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Wan Azlan Wan Mamat (pic) and Serdang OCPD Asst Comm AA Anbalagan cast their votes at the police station’s community hall, which served as the polling centre for Subang Jaya and Kinrara state seats in Selangor.

“About 30% of the Subang Jaya police officers had voted as of 11am. Many of them are still on duty, so they will be coming in to vote based on their shifts.

“Most of them will vote either early in the morning or after lunchtime. All are expected to vote, unless they are really sick or have a personal emergency,” said ACP Wan Azlan.

According to polling station supervisor Meor Khairul Hazrim Meor Azmi, the early voters comprised 961 police personnel for Subang Jaya and 777 for Kinrara.

The candidates contesting in Subang Jaya and Kinrara also dropped by the police station located in USJ8, Subang Jaya, to observe the early voting process.

Incumbent Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng from Pakatan Harapan said there are 189 voting streams in the constituency.

“Indelible ink was used and there were polling agents and counting agents at the centres. I hope these people will have confidence in the early voting process,” she said.

Muda’s Subang Jaya candidate Zayd Shaukat said voters had already queued up early before the polling centre’s doors opened yesterday.

Subang Jaya candidate S. Gana and Kinrara candidate Wong Yong Kang, both newcomers from Perikatan Nasional, also came to witness the early voting process.

“People have been welcoming to me during my walkabouts. I hope this also translates to support for Perikatan,” said Gana.

Wong said there were many complaints from Kinrara residents regarding unsatisfactory services provided by the local council, which he will address if he is elected.

“I will help anybody who comes to my service centre, even if the problem is outside Kinrara,” he said.

For the Selangor state election, Subang Jaya will see a three-cornered fight between Michelle from DAP, Zayd from Muda and Gana from Bersatu.

Meanwhile, Wong from Bersatu will challenge incumbent Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han from DAP.

Subang Jaya and Kinrara constituencies have the highest number of registered voters in Selangor, with 123,782 voters in Kinrara and 111,970 in Subang Jaya.
