Look before you leap: A passer-by looking at a banner alerting the public to be aware of ‘pukau’ scams in Jalan Sri Pelangi, Taman Pelangi in Johor Baru.

JOHOR BARU: A 72-year-old woman, who was approached by three strangers at a wet market here in June, almost ended up handing them her savings and jewellery.

She was saved by nature’s call as the woman, who only wanted to be known as Tan, said she had an upset stomach and had to leave mid-conversation.
